Crew Boss - Type 2 Initial Attack Handcrew
Job Summary:
A hand crew supervisor’s primary responsibility is leading his or her crew in the safe and effective completion of assigned work—on and off the fireline. This role also includes administrative duties, like timekeeping and travel record-keeping. Supervisors should have advanced training in fire suppression skills, plus training in leadership and supervision. Crew bosses are expected to execute fireline assignments with a minimal amount of operational oversight.
Certifications Required:
- Complete S-230 / S-290 and ICS-200
- CRWB/ENGB task book is issued following S-230 & S-290 training making the firefighter an CRWB/ENGB Trainee
- Complete Annual Fireline Safety Refresher (RT-130) training prior to next fire season.
- Pass work capacity fitness test (pack test) prior to next fire season.
- As an ENGB Trainee, work on wildfire incidents and complete the CRWB/ENGB task book. As an CRWB Trainee, work on at least 3 training incidents totaling at least 15 operational periods while on wildfire incident types 4,3,2,or 1 and complete the FFT1 task book. 10 of these assignments on type 4, 3, 2, or 1 type incidents. This meets requirement for satisfactory position performance as an FFT1.

Engine Boss - Initial Attack
Job Summary:
An engine boss performs the same basic work as other firefighters on a squad, but has an added layer of responsibility—leadership. Engine bosses supervise small groups of crew members to ensure assignments are completed safely, on time, and to an acceptable standard. Engine bosses must thoroughly understand the crew’s job, and they must exercise the judgment and decision making necessary to meet the crew’s objectives.
Certifications Required:
- Complete S-230 / S-290 and ICS-200
- CRWB/ENGB task book is issued following S-230 & S-290 training making the firefighter an CRWB/ENGB Trainee
- Complete Annual Fireline Safety Refresher (RT-130) training prior to next fire season.

Firefighter 1/ Firefighter 1 Trainee
Job Summary:
This is an exciting opportunity that combines hands-on work experience and skills training. As a Firefighter I you will be used for initial and extended attack fire suppression, support of prescribed fires, patrolling, and project work. Crews range in size from three to 20 firefighters and work with specialized firefighting equipment and perform many strenuous activities such as – mobile attack with engines, hose lay, construction of fireline with hand tools, burnout operations, and mopping up hotspots.
Certifications Required:
- Complete S-131/S-133.
- FFT1 task book is issued following S-131/S-133 training making the firefighter an FFT1 Trainee.
- Complete Annual Fireline Safety Refresher (RT-130) training prior to next season.
- Pass work capacity fitness test (pack test) prior to next season.
- As an FFT1 Trainee, work on at least 3 training incidents totaling at least 15 operational periods while on wildfire incidents and complete the FFT1 task book. 10 of these assignments on type 3, 2, or 1 type incidents. This meets requirement for satisfactory position performance as an FFT1

Utility Fire Prevention Team Leader
Job Summary:
Crew Leader Job Description: Organize, coordinate and control daily assignments and provide the necessary direction and leadership to crew member/s. Inspect and maintain equipment daily. Conduct tailgate safety briefings and applicable training to team members. Identify pre-suppression needs for each working location and work with team member to mitigate any concerns. Patrol working locations for potential fire ignition. Prepare to initiate fire suppression tactics until relieved by local resources.
Certifications Required:
- Requirements: Firefighter Type 1 (Federal) Firefighter Type 2 (State) Complete S-130/S-190/I-100/L-180 training. As an FFT1 Trainee, work on at least 3 training incidents totaling at least 15 operational periods while on wildfire incidents and complete the FFT1 task book. 10 of these assignments on type 3, 2, or 1 type incidents. This meets requirement for satisfactory position performance as an FFT1 Pass work capacity fitness test (pack test). Complete Annual RT-130 training NOTE: Not required for first year FF2 Become certified as an FFT2. FFT1 task book is issued following S-131/S-133 training making the firefighter an FFT1 Trainee.
