TRAINING FAQs

Q: How do I register for training?

A: You register for all training courses online by clicking on the Training Schedule page on the website. If you are a corporation and you are needing to book a course for multiple students, or you are interested in having an instructor come to your facility, please call the office at 530-898-8153 or email us at hr@firestormfire.com.

Q: Do I have to have an email address?

A: Yes. If you don’t have one, get one. There are several sources for getting a free email account, including gmail and yahoo. This is our primary means of communication, it is absolutely necessary you have a valid email address that you have frequent access to check.

Q: How do I pay for training?

A: Firestorm accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express. We do not accept cash or checks. All training registrations fees must be paid online at the time of registration.

Q: When is my Credit Card Charged?

A: Your credit card will be charged at the time of booking the course. This guarantees your seat. If you need to change your registration or cancel and you do so in within the accepted time frame in accordance with the cancellation policy, you will be refunded your money.

Q: What is the Cancellation Policy?

A: If you change or cancel your course before 14 days of the start date of the course, Firestorm will refund 100% of your course tuition. If you cancel or need to change your course within 7 days, we will refund 50% of your course tuition. Courses cancelled in less than 7 days will not be refunded.

Q: Will I receive a confirmation once I register?

A: Yes. Once Firestorm receives your registration form, we will email you your confirmation as well as any additional information you will need for that course.

Q: Where is the training location?

A: The address of the training facility is noted on each individual course and you will also receive the information again in your confirmation email. Note: course locations are subject to change. If the location of the training changes, you will be notified via email.

Q: What time does training start?

A: Unless otherwise noted, training will begin at 8am.

Q: What time does training end?

A: Class will be dismissed by 5pm. Depending on how things go, class may be dismissed earlier.

Q: Is lunch provided?

A: No, lunch is not provided. There is generally a 1 hour lunch break. There are several eating places within driving distance from all training facilities. You are welcome to bring a lunch and eat at our location.

Q: Is lodging provided?

A: No, lodging is not provided. There are several lodging options near each training facility and you can also look for camping options in the areas.

Q: What should I bring to class?

A: All training materials are provided but you should bring your own writing instrument and notebook. For classes requiring pre-course work, you will need to bring hard copies of your completed pre-course assignment(s). For classes that include field exercise, you will need to bring workpants, long sleeved shirt, work boots and water bottle. For the Work Capacity Test, you will need loose, comfortable clothing and running shoes. We also suggest packing a lunch as lunch is not provided.

Q: Is there a dress code?

A: We do not have a strict dress code but we do ask that there are no cut-off shorts, sleeveless shirts, jerseys or bandanas worn during training.

Q: Does completing and passing the Basic Firefighter or Annual Refresher training guarantee employment with Firestorm?

A: No. Firestorm Employment and Firestorm’s training program are completely separate. If you are interested in employment with Firestorm, we accept training from any certified agency.

Q: Who issues my certificate?

A: When you complete and pass a Firestorm training course you will receive two certificates. The National Wildfire Suppression Association (NWSA) whom has a memorandum of understanding with the National Wildland Coordination Group (NWCG) to provide training issues one certificate. Firestorm’s instructors are certified through the NWSA to provide this training. You will also receive a second certificate directly from Firestorm. All courses meet or exceed NWCG standards.

Q: Will I be issued a Red Card?

A: Generally speaking, Red Cards are agency specific. Meaning, whomever you work for usually will issue you their Red Card. You will be able to provide the agency you work for with your course completion certificates and they will issue you their company specific Red Card.

Q: Who issues the CPR and 1st Aid cards?

A: All training is provided through the American Safety & Health Institute which is nationally recognized for their sound training program. ASHI maintains compliance with multiple agencies including National Registry of EMTs, Department of Labor/OSHA and others.

Q: Where do I find Pre-course work?

A: Find pre-course work at training.nwcg.gov/pre-courses.html
